Statement by Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze

I would like to briefly comment on the provocation staged by Nikanor Melia today.
For the past few days, we have been talking on a daily basis about the fact that serious provocations were being planned in the offices of the United National Movement with the aim of artificially worsening the pre-election environment.
We have seen examples of this in Kareli, Dmanisi, Batumi, and Khelvachauri over the past few days.
The event that took place today clearly proves that what happened in the above-mentioned four municipalities was no spontaneous provocation, and that the United National Movement’s plan was in fact behind the said events.
We witnessed yet another example of this today, performed by Nikanor Melia, who is an unintelligent hooligan and a provocateur who only sees his political chance in provocations.
It is symbolic that Nikanor Melia staged the provocation in front of the office of the European Union, prior to meeting with EU ambassadors. This was a demonstrative statement, according to which Melia has no regard for the appeals of our Western partners and consciously incites polarization in front of their office.
Today’s provocation also proves that it is very difficult not to respond to such provocations. I too found it difficult to endure today’s provocations and insults, especially coming from a criminal. I apologize to the public for the words they heard from me today.
Against this backdrop, I would like to once again call on every one of our supporters, our party members, and activists, to approach any such provocation with patience.
We must ensure a calm and peaceful election environment.
On 2 October, the Georgian Dream will attain a convincing victory in the self-government elections, as a result of which the criminals will be removed from politics for good.
